Subject: HEATING, AIR CONDITIONING, AND VENTILATION SYSTEM Model: 318i (E3O) A heating and ventilation system with efficient operation, performance, and versatility of control has been developed for the 318i. With this system, a stratified temperature pattern can be obtained if desired. Even at low speed, the three speed, double sided, high performance blower delivers a high volume of air. The new air entry grille and the raised rear end of the engine compartment lid greatly reduce the system's dependence on ram air effects. The new heater is air blending and the temperature is controlled by mixing cool and warm air in varying proportions with the aid of a temperature regulating flap. There are three sliding levers for air distribution and two rotary knobs for interior temperature and blower speed. All control symbols are illuminated. Depending on the temperature control flap position, all outlets can be supplied with heated air. The drum style grilles can be rotated or swivelled to the left and right to permit either direct or indirect ventilation The following air outlets are provided for the ventilation, air conditioning, or heating of the car's interior: 2 windshield defrosting outlets 2 side window defrosting outlets 2 footwell outlets, left and right 2 rear passenger area outlets 4 outlets on the dash panel
